About Us

Oak Lawn Boxing began in 2005 with a simple premise: There are lots of adults who are interested in trying boxing, but who are uncomfortable in a large-class setting, surrounded by teenagers and semi-professional athletes.

Adult students have many reasons for hesitating to give boxing a try:
  • Issues with body image or body appearance
  • Fear of criticism
  • Concern about being hit in the head
  • Worry that the learning process will be too fast or too hard
  • Lack of self-confidence

The solution is to offer private one-on-one lessons where the student and the instructor are the only two people in that part of the gym:

  • Nobody else is present to judge your body appearance.

  • Nobody else is present to criticize you.

  • You do all the punching, so there’s never a concern that you will get hit in the head yourself.

  • Since you’re the only student, the learning process can go at your pace and your intensity level.

  • Your self-confidence grows and improves as a result.

Finally, all adults who have wanted to explore boxing for self-defense and for a great cardio workout have a safe, positive environment in which to give it a try!
